7 Reasons Why I Came Back to the Christian Faith

By Brian Chilton

On today’s podcast, host Brian Chilton discusses his personal journey back to the Christian faith. Brian was saved at the age of 7 and was called into the gospel ministry at 16 years of age. However, he left the faith in 2000 due to personal issues and doubts that he had pertaining to the reliability of the faith. While he did not completely become an atheist, he did become what he calls a “theist-leaning-agnostic” or perhaps a panentheist. Nevertheless, in 2005, Brian’s world was transformed as he encountered 3 books at a local Lifeway Christian Bookstore that transformed his mindset. They were Lee Strobel’s The Case for Christ, and Josh McDowell’s Evidence that Demands a Verdict and McDowell’s compilation book, A Ready Defense. Today, Brian discusses the 7 major arguments that led him back to faith, which were, as Pastor Brian testifies:

7 Reasons Christianity

#1: The Evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. The evidence for the resurrection of Jesus greatly surprised me. To a great degree, this was the evidence that sealed the deal for my return.

#2: The Evidence for the New Testament’s Reliability. The Jesus Seminar was responsible for spiraling my faith downward. However, the massive amount of evidence for the New Testament (i.e., over 24,000 ancient manuscripts), the ability to know what were in the originals to a degree of 99.7%, in addition to the archaeological confirmation, and attestations from extra-biblical texts (at least 86,000 to a million quotations from the early church fathers) all confirmed for me that the Bible is trustworthy in what it says.

#3: The Ontological Necessity for God’s Existence. While I had not completely rejected the idea of God in my state of doubt, the ontological necessity for God’s existence has always been so strong that atheism never appealed to me.

#4: The Cosmological Argument for God’s Existence (particularly the Kalam Argument). William Lane Craig is the man! I may not agree with him on all his theological points. Nevertheless, the Kalam Cosmological Argument is a powerful and succinct argument for the causal nature of the universe.

#5: The Teleological/Design Argument for God’s Existence. It’s unavoidable. The universe was designed. That points to the existence of a Designer.

#6: The Moral Argument for God’s Existence. Everyone, including atheists, appeal to a moral standard. A moral standard requires a transcendent law giver. That Lawgiver is God.

#7: The Historical Tenacity of Jesus of Nazareth. Well, this may not be so much an argument as much as it is admiration. Even the most skeptical of NT historians agree that Jesus was quite tenacious. While I had been hurt by some individuals in the church and was confused by the hypocrisy that I sometimes seen in the church, I was amazed at the example of Jesus. I saw Jesus afresh and anew.

Come and listen to the arguments that led Pastor Brian Chilton back to a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ!

I am glad you found your way back Brian. A lot of people don’t because they make idols out of education, science or the state.

Read “Sacred Secrets of the Sovereignty of God” by James W. Bruggemann on it.

    Psalm 25:7-9:
    Psalm 25:7-9King James Version (KJV)

7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O Lord.

8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.

9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

Imagine all the people out in the world ignoring God in favor of the world’s illusions and ways. But you have to put away your idols, vain imaginations, evil thinking and all the false teachers in the world to be able to go to God and learn His ways.

If you’re counting on this world to make a real person out of you, don’t.

The only person that ever lived worth paying attention to was Jesus Christ. That is why he is still worshipped as God today.

He set the example in humility, courage, love, truth, kindness, etc. Every virtue worth having is what he displayed.

But the world likes to devalue him and put other things in his place because people don’t reason so well.

All you have to do is study Christ in the Gospels and compare him to people in the world to know he’s better than everyone else. Everyone else falls short but they insist on intellectualizing and making self important excuses so they can follow false idols.

It’s easy to get everything wrong in this world with all the bad things it teaches people.

If you want to start to get things right then you have to defer to Jesus and follow him where ever he leads.

An interesting video on today’s solar eclipse. It is on youtube and short in duration and entitled:
” A News Update Solar Eclipse Will Go Through Seven Salems in America”.

Right Susan, the path of the eclipse is clear evidence of the creator and that the end is near. So what was the end result of the prophetic brilliance of your wacky little friend over at YouTube News Channel 428? Did Jesus return today and we just didn’t notice the event? Does he have a point? I didn’t hear him make one. That’s right, he doesn’t have to have a point. He can just run his mouth forever because he will always find a crowd of believers as gullible as you to listen. He can offer 10,000 failed prophecies and you won’t give up on him. And, I’ll bet if you took the time to research his claims you would find them full of exaggerations, half truths and flat out lies just like John Haggee’s Blood Moon nonsense.
Jesus said he would return during the lifetime of those in his hearing, didn’t happen. Hundreds have predicted the end of the world since Jesus day, hasn’t happened. Christians thought 1988 would be the year. Had to be, surely a generation is 40 years and Israel became a nation again in 1948. Didn’t happen. Rewrite the script, must be 1998, maybe a biblical generation is 50 years. Nope. What if we started from 1967 after the Six-Day War and add 40 years? Nothing happened in 2007, wrong again. Predict, experience disappointment, reformulate, predict, experience disappointment, reformulate, predict, experience disappointment, reformulate, predict, experience disappointment, reformulate … Good thing for the bible that it calls many different spans of time a “generation”. 40 years, 70 years or even 100 years? Take your pick. Whatever number you need to use to make your prediction fit. WAKE UP!!! Ain’t gonna happen. The only thing the Zionist movement might accomplish is getting millions and millions of Jews killed when the entire middle east rises up against them, sweeps them off into the Mediterranean and Jesus does not show up to save them.
Susan do you believe that thunder is caused by god moving the furniture in heaven? Are mushrooms evidence of fairies and demons? There’s one other Salem that comes to mind when I encounter people who think the way you do Susan, the Salem Witch Trials.

Some pretty poor reasons there as well as good, but the tenacity of Jesus seems particularly absurd – Adolf Hitler was pretty tenacious..not really a decent reason to follow him, though.

That you would even speak of a belief in Jesus with a belief in Hitler in the same breadth is absurd.

It shows you neither perceive or quantify in your own mind but confuse things perhaps intentionally.

      Jesus Christ is The Peacemaker.

      Hitler was a war mongerer.

But you couldn’t even tell them apart, Anthony and you want to pick apart other people’s intellectual ideas and beliefs.

You might want to examine your own beliefs for doing that. You are using philosophy as an excuse for intellectual busybodying and that isn’t rational. That is quite an intellectual grab to give yourself permission to meddle with the beliefs of others the way Richard Dawkins does.

You had better be absolutely right about everything before you meddle shouldn’t you?

Especially when you know you are interfering with a belief that promises eternal life.

Why don’t you just go off and act peacefully and leave people alone if you feel sure you are right?

That way there won’t be a burden on you to prove yourself right.

If you can’t prove yourself and every atheist belief right then you have no right to tinker with the beliefs of others do you?

At least a theist spreads the Gospel on God’s authority.

Their choice to do that is not based on their own personal authority at all.

If you think you understand more than an all knowing God Anthony then you will have to prove it.

And that could take you years ofmself reflection before you even get down to the years of writing that it will require to show why you are more of an authority than God.

So you had better get busy. Don’t argue. Don’t even open your mouth.

Younare going to have to construct a whole belief system that works better than Christianity which is God’s system.

Any time you deconstruct something you leave a vacuum for something else to fill.

The U,S. took Saddam Hussein out and the world’s fifth largest army when it beat Iraq and created a vacuum that was filled by ISIS.

So if you are going to deconstruct Christianity you had better have something better to fill it with or you just gave the devil an opening didn’t you.

If you can’t fill yourself with good ideas and mediatate on them and dedicate yourself to them then you just left yourself open wide to be filled with lesser things didn’t you?

Like I said if you think God is wrong then you will have to construct a better system of ideas.

Better than atheists currently have because alot of people see atheism in it’s current state and represented by that narcissist Richard Dawkins as an epic fail.

So go meditate in your closet for 30 or 40 years and don’t say anything or come out of your closet until you have something systematic that actually works to replace Christianity.

Are you really crazy enough to deconstruct a worldview of a person dedicated to holy ideas?

Then you had better have something better than mere science to replace it with.

You are attempting to tear down people and have offered nothing better in it’s place.

Your self validation of science doesn’t substitute for my lack of receptivity towards it.

If you are going to claim moral superiority over Christians then science will have to prove it’s moral authority.

So it is time for you to stop exercising your critical spirit Anthony.

Retreat to your closet for a few decades and get constructing.

Because right now you are just a critic and a meddler tearing down other people without anything better to replace their beliefs with.

Why even argue if you don’t have a constructive moral solution?

      You don’t .

You’re just another person with a moral vacuum that likes to fill that vacuum with lesser ideas than God teaches.

Your meddling is self serving now.

At least a Christian serves something higher than himself. They have that much humility if nothing more.

Take care. God Bless Anthony. And enjoy your closet….Don’t come out until you have constructed Anthony’s Complete Fail Safe System of Morality.

Because you are smart enough to deconstruct someone eles’s beliefs amirite?

Then you must be smart enough to put something better in their place or they are left with the vacuum like you are right now and vacuums get filled with “something”.

He probably has a lot more than seven reasons for his beliefs. It’s kind of him to articulate a few though because he really doesn’t have to explain the state of his inner being to anyone.

Everyone has his own internal valuations and really no Christian has to open his internal valuation system to the world without screening the world first about their sincerity and motives because the world likes to meddle with others from bad or misguided motives sometimes.

That is why Richard Dawkins writes his books. To meddle with other people’s internal value judgments though he has a lot he hasn’t got right himself.

How could such weak scholarship and lopsided reporting convince anyone? Strobel? Are you kidding? Read Robert M Price’s, “The Case Against The Case For Christ”.

I don’t need a false teacher like Price.

      1 John 2:27, ESV

But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.

Prove Price ever abided in Jesus. It looks like he didn’t because he just denied the historicity of Jesus like 1 John says someone with an antichrist spirit does.

I know you’re too scared to read his book. It’s ok. Just keep your head in the sand. My favorite part of Strobel’s book is the section where he talks about Vardaman’s Magic Coins. What buffoonery.

So this author is not allowed to make a decision based on, his feelings spiritual needs, because these Atheist 1. Don’t like the authors personal decision and 2. The Atheist don’t believe in God, phiff now who are the dictators?
Get real go a find your own business, and then get on with minding it but you wont because its not that nice to begin with.
Hence why you turn up here as regular as clock work.
Addicted to God, perhaps? Will we witness a personal statement of such?
Don’t tell me Gods not in control.
    Your hook, line and sinkerred,
