A self-described “progressive” Christian church in Nashville, TN made headlines last week with a meme claiming the Bible is not the word of God, not infallible, and not inerrant. Years ago, this was an evangelical church in the heart of the Bible belt, but over time, the slow and subtle shift toward liberalism and postmodernism came to a head when they declared themselves a “progressive” church.

Alisa addresses questions including:

  • What is the progressive view of the Bible?
  • How does this view contradict the historic Christian view of the Bible?
  • What are some ways progressives try and pass their views as “Christian?”
  • How do progressives change the definitions of commonly understood words and phrases?
  • What is Jesus’ view of Scripture and how does it contradict the progressive view?
  • What does a typical progressive doctrinal statement look like?
  • How can we spot these ideas in our own churches?

The report is out, and it is devastating.  Many of the facts have come from the victims themselves and have been verified by looking at Ravi’s own smartphones, which included text messages, emails, and pictures.  For several years Ravi Zacharias had been living a double life; on one hand as a respected Christian apologist, evangelist, and ministry leader; on the other as a serial sexual predator—a man who used his reputation to groom women, many of them massage therapists, to engage in immoral behavior against their will.

Frank comments on Ravi’s unconscionable behavior and addresses several questions including:

  • Why did no one notice this earlier?
  • Why didn’t the Holy Spirit prevent this and other high-profile falls?
  • Does this disprove Christianity?
  • What can we do to prevent this from happening again?

Frank also cites 10 ways that such evil behavior is actually a reminder to us that the Christian worldview is true and opposing worldviews are not.

If you believe in the Resurrection or the biblical miracles, skeptics will often dismiss your beliefs by saying that “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”.   Is that claim true?  What does “extraordinary” mean?  Do skeptics and atheists apply that standard to their own beliefs?  In this show, Frank lays out some of the evidence for Christianity— some of which is extraordinary— and then examines the counterclaims of atheists.  It turns out that atheist claims are extraordinary, yet they have no evidence for them!  Frank also addresses these questions:  Why is there evidence for anything?  Why is does this orderly universe exist and why can our minds gather and understand that evidence?   What best explains ordinary cause and effect? You might become amazed at the ordinary all around you.

Why are women paid less on average than men for the same job? Is it sexism? Why do certain ethnic groups have worse outcomes than others?  Is it racism?  Why did Alberto Salazar beat Frank Turek by 43 minutes in the 1981 New York City Marathon?  Was it discrimination?  How do you discover the causes for different outcomes in life?

Frank shows that true cause and effect regarding outcomes in our society is much more difficult to establish than those who chant slogans.  There are hundreds of reasons why people wind up where they are.   Discrimination may explain some of it, but our country has made great progress away from racism despite what current woke people say.  Racism does not explain everything.

Proverbs 18:17 says, “The one who states his case first seems right until the other comes and examines him.”   Yet, there’s an expectation that you’re supposed to have an informed opinion on an event the second a story breaks.  And if you don’t say something, you’ll be accused of not caring:  Silence is violence!  Silence is compliance!

Frank applies this insight to a question about the riots and then addresses questions related to:

  • Is there ever a justification for using violence against your government?
  • Are biblical prohibitions about homosexual behavior really about pedophilia?
  • How can we be sinless in heaven if we have free will?  Won’t there be the potential for sin?
  • How can prayer work if God knows all things in advance?
  • Is recreational marijuana biblical?
  • If God designed DNA, then why are there birth defects?

Are you happy or sad about current events?  Don’t get too happy or sad because the things of this world are temporary.  The state is temporary, but you are eternal. Solomon said that God has put eternity on our hearts.  But unless we accept God’s gracious offer of Heaven, we will try to find substitutes for God in an attempt to satisfy our desire for immortality.   Join Frank as he welcomes Dr. Clay Jones to share findings from his new book, Immortal:  How the Fear of Death Drives Us and What We Can Do About It.  Clay and Frank have an insightful conversation about many related issues, including philosophy, C.S. Lewis, why some Christians fear death, and whether or not true meaning can be found without God. If you want to send us a question for the show, please email us at Hello@CrossExamined.org. Why was there a riot at the Capitol by Trump Supporters?  Why have there been riots across America this year by Leftists?  What are the roots of these riots?

Frank exposes the underlying problem in our country that has led to violence.  There is plenty of blame to go around, including the church. There is no excuse for this violence but there are plenty of explanations. Along the way, he distinguishes between causes and conditions and what Christians should do to help our country.

If you want to deceive someone to believe a falsehood, dress up the falsehood to look beautiful or at least more attractive.  This deception occurs every day in our culture, and sometimes the church when people use language as a beautiful cover for sin.  In this show, Frank looks at how people do this by using attractive words— such as Love, tolerance, justice, equality, progressive, and the like— to make you feel better about doing something wrong.  Listening might help you discern truth from deception and avoid sin and pain.

How many of the objections did you hear about Christianity strike at the heart of Christianity? In other words, if you couldn’t answer them would that mean that Christianity is false?  Frank has discovered that the answer is no.   Christianity is still true even if such objections or questions remain unaddressed.  In this show, Frank unpacks that point and C.S. Lewis’s maxim that Christianity, if true, is of Infinite Importance.  Why? Because how you respond to the true meaning of Christmas will determine your eternity.

Why are people being canceled for recognizing clear biological facts?  Why are all white people being declared racist regardless of their behavior?  Why are people being ordered to repent for sins they never personally committed?  Dr. Neil Shenvi explains that these and other shocking phenomena in our culture are the results of a growing view of the world called “Critical Theory.”  He joins Frank to answer questions such as:

  • What is Critical Theory?
  • What does it get right, and what does it get wrong?
  • How does it line up with the Bible?
  • How does it oppose what Martin Luther King taught?
  • What are some signs that it is seeping into your church?
  • What questions should you ask people who believe it?
  • What practical steps should we take to improve race relations in America?

As you’ll see, Neil is very clear and concise about this growing movement in our culture.  If you don’t care about this now, you will be made to care.  See much more about this topic on Dr. Shenvi’s website:  www.ShenviApologetics.com
