CROSSEXAMINED.ORG is committed to maintaining your trust and confidence. This online privacy policy is intended to protect and secure the personally identifiable information (any information by which you can be identified) you provide to CROSSEXAMINED.ORG online. We do not collect and keep any personal information online from you unless you volunteer it. We also do not knowingly collect and keep personal information online from children under the age of 13. By giving us your email address, you have given us permission to send you email periodically.

This online privacy policy is intended to explain our privacy practices and inform you of the way your information is collected and used, the circumstances under which we disclose personal information to third parties, how you can access, update or delete any personal information collected about you by us, and to make you aware of our security practices.

WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED?

At CROSSEXAMINED.ORG, there are two ways in which we collect personally identifiable information from website visitors:

  • From the account set up and online requests for information (such as email contact forms, surveys, etc.); and
  • If you email us at CROSSEXAMINED.ORG.

This information is only collected on a voluntary basis as follows:

CROSSEXAMINED.ORG doesn’t require anyone to share any personal information about themselves in order to enjoy our website. That means you can visit our site without any need to log-in with us. However, our site may contain special sections and privileges for those that log-in. We do not collect any personal information from you online unless it is voluntarily provided, for instance signing up for services or tools of CROSSEXAMINED.ORG, completing our online surveys or requesting information. The personal information we ask for may be first and last name, mailing address, phone number and an email address and other information necessary to fulfill your requests through our website. In order to continuously improve our service to you and tailor our future communications to you, we may also ask you to provide us with information regarding your demographics, comments, personal interests, and contact preferences.

CHILDREN

Our site is a general audience site that is not designed nor intended to collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13. We will not collect information from children under age 13.

SURVEYS

From time-to-time we may invite you to participate in surveys on our site. These surveys may request demographic information and customer feedback. Participation in these requests is completely voluntary and with each request you will have the choice of whether or not to disclose information. Such survey information will be used to improve the overall experience of visiting the site. No compensation will be provided should you choose to participate.

CROSSEXAMINED.ORG offers website visitors the opportunity to sign up to receive CROSSEXAMINED.ORG services on a regular basis.

EMAIL MESSAGES

CROSSEXAMINED.ORG may also provide the opportunity to send email to us. We may ask for first names, but we request no personally identifiable information except an email address, which we use solely for the purpose of responding to messages and/or requests.

All information collected for email messages is used only to send the requested email message and to respond to email questions and/or requests, unless you voluntarily sign up to receive the CROSSEXAMINED.ORG newsletter.

HOW THE INFORMATION IS USED

CROSSEXAMINED.ORG uses your information to understand your needs and provide you with better online services. We use the personal information we collect for a variety of reasons. For instance, we may use your information to complete a request for information, or personalize the website for you. Occasionally, we might also email you to provide information on upcoming events, website updates and promotions.

WHAT INFORMATION IS DISCLOSED?

CROSSEXAMINED.ORG currently does not disclose to third parties personally identifiable information that you provide, except from time to time, we may transfer, disclose or share such information with third parties who may be engaged by us specifically to handle and deliver certain online activities (e.g. sending electronic newsletters). Such third parties have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes. Additionally, in the event that all or substantially all of the assets relating to CROSSEXAMINED.ORG are transferred or sold to another entity, personally identifiable information submitted to us may be transferred to the acquiring entity. Finally, we may also disclose personally identifiable information to third parties in order to comply with law or requests by law enforcement agencies or to protect the rights, property or safety of our website, users of our website and others.

COOKIES AND LOG DATA

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about the user. A cookie is used to remember your log-in number when you revisit our site. If a user rejects the cookie, they may still use our site. The only drawback to this is that the user may be limited in some areas of our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our site, even though a cookie is stored on the user’s hard drive.

We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

LINKS TO OUTSIDE WEBSITES

The CROSSEXAMINED.ORG app may contain links to third party websites and documents located on websites maintained by other organizations or individuals. Once you access a link to another website, please be aware that CROSSEXAMINED.ORG is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites.

SECURITY

CROSSEXAMINED.ORG has taken steps to ensure that personally identifiable information collected in the future is secure. When users submit sensitive information via the CROSSEXAMINED.ORG website or in the CROSSEXAMINED.ORG app, your information is protected both online and off-line. 

We use commercially reasonable efforts to store, maintain and secure personal information to protect it from loss, misuse, alternation or destruction by any unauthorized party.

Because the internet is a public and open facility, no security measures can guarantee complete confidentiality under all circumstances. Your personal information added within our app is secured on our private server, but your identity may be disclosed by yourself within the conversation thread of the CROSSEXAMINED.ORG app. To help preserve your confidentiality, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your username and password. This Privacy Policy does not create any contractual or legal rights on your behalf.

REPORTING INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT

If someone sends you an inappropriate post or photo in your Trash Talk feed in the CROSSEXAMINED.ORG app, it’s important that you report it. We’ll take the necessary action if we find what you sent us violates our Terms of Use Policy. For example, we’ll remove content we determine is malicious, hateful, or sexual in any way.  In some cases, may even ban the user who posted it.

Important: If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please contact local law enforcement. It may be helpful to keep a record of the abuse to show them. You can create a record by taking a screenshot or printing the threatening material.
