Why Would a Good God Allow So Much “Christian” Evil?

Whenever I start writing about morality or the existence of evil, I almost always get an email (or two) from people who point to the historic actions of alleged “Christians”. For many skeptics, Christianity is the source of much evil in the past (i.e. the Crusades and the Inquisition). For this reason, some skeptics point to “Christian” evil as evidence against the existence of a good Christian God. While history may include examples of “Christian” groups committing evil upon those with whom they disagreed, a fair examination will also reveal Christians were not alone in this sort of behavior. Groups holding virtually every worldview, from theists to atheists, have been mutually guilty of evil behavior. Atheists point to the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition when making a case against Christians, theists point to the atheistic regimes of Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse Tung when making a case against atheists. Death statistics are often debated in an effort to argue which groups were more violent, but all this seems to miss the point. The common denominator in these violent human groups was not worldview; it was the presence of humans.

God Christian Evil

History has demonstrated a human predisposition toward violence. Regardless of worldview, humans will try to find a way to justify their evil actions. The question is not which group is more violent but which worldview most authorizes and accommodates this violence. Christians who commit horrific evil toward other humans actually have to act in opposition to the teaching of their Master, Jesus Christ. The Gospels repeatedly demonstrate that Jesus came to “guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:79), and Jesus taught his followers to love their enemies (Matthew 5:44). Christians who have committed atrocities over the ages have had to do so in rebellion; they ignored or were ignorant of the teachings of Jesus.

But in an atheistic worldview (where humans are not specially designed in the image of God), there is little or no reason why any of us should feel compelled to treat other people with the respect that Jesus taught his followers to have for their enemies. If the world is simply filled with species and groups competing for the same resources, and if history belongs to those species and groups who are best suited for survival and reproduction, why should we be concerned with those groups who are not “fit” enough to survive? History is filled with examples of one population group replacing another in the natural struggle for resources. If atheism is true, and survival and reproduction are the only true concerns, then the struggle for resources authorizes and justifies human violence. Unlike Christians, atheists can commit genocide without ignoring their worldview; atheists have the freedom to eliminate competing groups as a faithful expression of their worldview.

God has given us the freedom to follow our own nature or to follow the teaching of Jesus. Christians who have committed atrocities over the ages have simply submitted to their natural inclination rather than to the foundational teaching of the Christian Worldview:

Matthew 7:24-26
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.”

Not everyone who calls himself a Christian is listening to the words of Christ (Matthew 7:21). Those of us who have identified ourselves as Christians, yet have perpetrated evil, are willfully resisting or rejecting the words of Jesus.

I think atheists (thinking or unthinking) are mostly decent people because they were brought up by mostly decent people and because they are genetically predisposed towards co-operative behaviour. I think this is also true for Christians. The idea that we need a god to tell us that we should try to get along with each other strikes me as rather odd. We are social creatures descended from other social creatures – if our ancestors hadn’t had any compunction against killing each other, we wouldn’t exist.

Atheist just means they lack a belief in God. What is it that you think atheist ‘profess to believe’ that they don’t actually believe? How do you know that atheists have no reason to treat others with respect?

I love how they enjoy their little hypothetical universe where the only thing that matters is thinking, “I’m an atheist, so obviously nothing matters at all, anything, anytime, in any situation, ever.”

It’s such an overly simple notion. But that’s what they love. Simple ideas that appear profound on the surface, but once you begin factoring in additional circumstances it begins to look like the ill-formed thought it is.

….’where humans are not specifically designed in the image of God,’

No I have never met any atheist who thinks that, as they don’t believe in Jesus.

The reason why humans are here on earth at all, has really nothing to do with Atheist reasons, as I understand atheism, there is no, spiritual reason, just a science of the cause, of.

As I see it, science says it is the Truth because of research and experiments, why? because, every year, we have another, “oh no, don’t use this, product in your, for your, on your, as it’s bad for you, when twenty years ago or more, it was the cure-all.
Or the way surgery was performed years ago, now it’s no we, don’t do it like that anymore.
Or coal was used as the heating for homes, now its’ a source of pollution.
Now I know, there will be the standard outcry, of, thats’ a stupid example, this change is about, advancements, or evolution etc, well tell that to the people the product or procedure was sold to at that, ‘time,’ they believed it was the truth, as the facts pointed to it, the facts that were marketed, and it was years ago, the the planet Pluto was a planet, now it isn’t a little, bit, lacking in Truthful evidence. Now when these were marketed they were the thing to use or have, the public didn’t really have access to disprove until, an accident or illness occurred was diagnosed then the legals got involved and evidence of the contrary was discovered, so………..realities, objective, subjective, truths last about as long as something new is invented or something goes wrong, then it’s all on for young and old.
Now God is God then now and so on, never changes doesn’t say, oops, no don’t believe that god, anymore, here is a new model of me, that old one, wasn’t right, but I’v done loads of tests, and yep I am the one, I’v got it right this time, read my new article in the next journal.
Show me the science that remains truthful for ever, and I will humbly say, yes your right, but this won’t happen, as no, company/business, government, will ever give a guarantee- on the WHOLE product/service let alone a life-time, let-alone for eternity, for anything they made and/or make, no way, there are contracts signed all over the service and/or product.
And we haven’t even gone near, personal relationships, that is a very different arena, when these fail, the stuff hits the fan big time, i.e., World wars, and where was God I hear you say, right in the midst of it, waiting for us to ask for help, and what were the wars about? ownership of land, of stuff we don’t even own, ever seen a person take their body with them when they died, or their house or their land, no, never, why, because we own nothing, but we arrogantly think ourselves into wrongly thinking we do.
Ask this of your self, if you rented a property to a person/s and they trashed it, would you throw them out and seek compensation, and possibly have them garnished from renting another property, because you were so angry, you wanted, retribution?
Well, image how God feels, with the destruction to; his child-aborted, or his, family, living on the streets, lands mined and left as slag-heaps, water basins spoiled for industry growth, and so on.
No God, sent his son Jesus Christ, to help us resolve our mess, so we would not hurt each other, and hurt ourselves in the process, regardless of which side is slinging mud, there is a very old Hebrew phrase/proverb, He who seeks revenge digs two graves.
I don’t really believe that the Christians who committed those atrocious acts of violence, Crusades, and lets not disregard those who look down the nose to person/s who don’t fit, the Ten Commandments, but do not disclose what they have done, for fear of condemnations, yes these are hypocritical. So were they the Crusaders and those who sent them, in their heart, Jesus Christ typed Christians?
As Christians per, Our Lord Jesus, we should know, how to check ourselves, when the hypocrisy rises, i.e., thoughts, words or deeds are about to surface, and self-stop. We know we have received unmerited grace and we need to trust and believe with the guidance of Christ we will not offend, and if so, we apologise for, not because we are afraid of condemnation but because of Gods love for us, it so overwhelming, we just must apologise, we see the hurt it has done.
To know God is very hard to explain, and I think this was/is one of Gods plans; that as each of us, becomes a God-fearing of His love which is unconditional and everlasting; child of, we can’t explain it, as we would be, responsible for the other-albeit proxy and also, the other would never have the personal relationahip with God, their “self,” this is what independence is, to seek for thy-self, the Truth, and no amount of science journals, fact finding will fill, the hole that is unfulfilled, can only be fill by God, this peace can not be shared. Yet knowing we as Christians do for God not for ourselves, why, simple we are here by His good grace, we do for Him self-less as we are only here a short time, and we will take no one thing with us, but our hearts.
There is room for improvement for both sides of this argument or better still, don’t argue about what someone else has chosen until you, know for sure you are right, and that your ‘right,’ fits all. And I don’t mean garner a group/tribe mass and then set forth to persuade brow beat or worse use violence, I mean YOU the singular person, the one left alone at 2 a.m. who are you then? truthfully.
A few years ago, at 4.30a.m. I went to or woke to? me standing on grass land, slightly undulating hills, and there were people of every nationality there, I bent down to pick up a very large cup of coffee (why coffee I have no idea), and two feet with sandals on, appeared in my vision, then a hand reach down took my hand and raised me up, I stood up, and the person smiling at me was Jesus Christ of Nazareth, He has the most potent form of love and smile I had and have since never seen or experience again, He smiled at me, and said, ‘I love you be happy, ‘ and was so shocked all I said was,
‘aren’t you neat,’ I was so engulf with Christs happiness I didn’t do anything else but stood there looking at him, and then Jesus point to me to look at the river along side the land I was standing on and across the river was a city, then Jesus , just went up into the cloud of heaven to the side of Jesus arms length away was an evil face, Jesus reached out and took it, and and angle was beside him and the angel took the evil face.
I remember all the details, the atmosphere, the feeling, the him Jesus as real as I am sitting writing this, He is real there is no doubt, and so is evil because I saw it floating in the air.
Months later God held me in his arms, and I didn’t know until I knew I don’t know what he looks like I never saw his face, but I knew it was him and he said to me, ‘I will never let you fall I love you.’
I was in Gods arms, looking down at my house, and on the roof were four angels one at each point of the compass North, South, East, West, one of them nodded at me, the angels were gianormously huge so much so they seem to be that size of the universe, it was at this very moment I realised, I was up high and I felt panicky, (as I have a real fear of heights), at that precise moment, God said those words to me, my panic vanished, I felt, nothing, no fear, no joy, no worry, just peace; at least that is the only word I can describe me feeling/knowing as, and it was then I realised, this is God.
Why did these take place for me, I do not know, when I have asked, the only answer I get, is Peace be with you my child.

If your talking from personal experience than that would make sense to reply with what you have known, trying to understand by comparing like for like.
But this is not the case with me or the experience I had, the advice to seek an explanation, I did not ask for any explanation; within what I wrote about, and this was in 2001, so if your thinking your reply is suitable, your made an error, in the connection.
But what is interesting is, when I decided to write this, I knew there would be one or two who would, disconnect the meaning, to justify their, response, when it doesn’t fit their way.
So much for atheism and being, an individual with, the freedom to experience life unfetted by judgments, I’v thought for a while now that the world is actually run by atheist.
With this said, and the meaning of such that, there is no God, then this leaves using the terms, Christian, Islam, Hebrew/Jewish, about wars over say the Temple Mount, not allowable, and there is no God to reference the people who did these, they would/could be any name you want, but just not a biblical term, as it doesn’t exist, so they would by default be terrorist, the word used to describe the London bombing attackers etc, so with this there have been no religious killings, no religious events; Christmas, Easter, Passover, as far as the Atheististic meaning, there is no God, so there are, no terms that can be used to describe a church, temple, they would be buildings, no religious ceremonies baptisms just? dunking in water? , no religious schools just schools based on?, no religion, so blaming these groups under these terms, is null an void.
The Christians, Jewish, Muslims, and Pagans, Druids, Witches/Wiccans, High Priest, the list is endless, all these don’t exist, using the atheist reasoning.
We, religious have done nothing wrong, we, have been cleared by the atheist, so it must have been the atheist who did all that? hmm.
But as Christians, we, can, look at each other and say, this deed, word, and/or act is Unchristian, the atheist cannot, as to atheist, we, the Christians don’t exist.
If atheist do use any biblical terms, then by atheist reasoning, it’s using language from the world of fairy tales who would believe them, it’s imaginary, talking into thin air. Who are you talking to?
        Interesting stuff, love it.

    J. Warner Wallace wrote: “If the world is simply filled with species and groups competing for the same resources, and if history belongs to those species and groups who are best suited for survival and reproduction, why should we be concerned with those groups who are not “fit” enough to survive?”

This is a fundamental misunderstanding both of the theory of evolution and science in general. The ToE, just like all other scientific theories is descriptive, not prescriptive. It’s an explanatory model of how life has developed into the multitude of forms we see today – it has nothing to say about how we should behave and what we should be concerned about. It’s like saying “the theory of gravitation tells us that things fall down so why should we be concerned with picking them up?”.

Furthermore, our observations suggest that we are genetically predisposed for compassion and a sense of fairness. Since we see the same features in other primates, it would seem that they have deep evolutionary roots. This makes perfect sense, since we are social creatures who through our evolutionary history have depended on each other for survival. A population of individuals that “have each other’s back” is more likely to survive and prosper than a disparate collection of lone wolfs and so a co-operative behaviour is more likely to be propagated to future generations. This is supported by game theory by which it can be mathematically demonstrated that co-operative behaviour is more likely to succeed than pure individualism. None of this requires any deity.

“If atheism is true, and survival and reproduction are the only true concerns, then the struggle for resources authorizes and justifies human violence.”

I guess we can add atheism to the list of things Mr Wallace misunderstands. Atheism is a lack of belief in deities – that’s it. It’s not a worldview, it’s not a religion or a philosophy and it certainly isn’t a theory of what our concerns should be. Atheists may have ideas about this but they tend to differ between individuals – there is no unified “atheist position” on morality.

“Unlike Christians, atheists can commit genocide without ignoring their worldview; atheists have the freedom to eliminate competing groups as a faithful expression of their worldview.”

As I’ve already explained, atheism is not a worldview and the only thing common to all atheists is that they have no belief in any deities. When it comes to issues of morality, atheists are all over the place – but I’m pretty sure I’ve never met one that was OK with genocide. Mr Wallace may think his beef is with atheists on this point but he would be wrong.

“God has given us the freedom to follow our own nature or to follow the teaching of Jesus.”

Why would God provide us with a nature that’s in conflict with His own teachings? What evidence is there that we are able to choose differently than we do?

Sometimes bad behavior is caused by evil spirits. The spirit of jealousy is usually behind murder, jealousy, revenge, spite, anger, rage, strife, hatred, extreme competition, cruelty, contention, divisions and envy.

So believers have to learn how to exercise their authority in Jesus and learn how to bind the bad spirits in accordance with Matthew 18:18 which says whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. We perform the binding in Jesus’ name then we thank the Lord for letting us cast the evil spirit to Jesus’ feet and praise God . Then we loose the love of God to promote divine healing as per 1 Corinthans 13 and Ephesians 5:2.

The major spirits and their evil manifestations that we actually find symptomatic in human nature are collated in a book called “Strongman’s His Name…What’s His Game?” by former missionaries Doctors Jerry & Carol Robeson. It is a very useful book for increasing discernment and equips people to discern and treat spiritual problems more quickly and effectively as well as providing the applicable prayers and verses specific to each evil spirit.

The story of Joseph being bound by his brothers is an actual Biblical account of the spirit of jealousy at work. Of course in the Old Testament they didn’t have the authority of Jesus available to them that Jesus now makes available to his disciples to bind that spirit and to loose the love of God in it’s place.

I recommend this book to anyone seriously dedicated to learning God’s ways or to true seekers of God’s truth. It helps move your faith from the passive to the active and actually encourages people by a godly witness and example to participate in overcoming evil with good.

Susan, I disagree. By “bad behavior” you mean sin, right? We cannot say “the devil made me do it”. James tells us that “Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire” (James 1:14). So “behind murder, jealousy, revenge, spite, anger, rage, strife, hatred, extreme competition, cruelty, contention, divisions and envy” is our flesh and our desires, not a “spirit of jealousy”. We sin because we choose to.

Matthew 18 is a passage on church discipline, not “binding demons and loosing the love of God”.

Read for the Courts of Heaven, as on earth so is in heaven, this is where we get the Law from they all come from the Bible, God, created each person as is written in the scroll of each person, well before we are, beginning, the scroll has in it our reason/purpose and way/destiny, now go back to the original sin, Adamah & Ishah, and this curse, follows us, so with this on us, it creates an opening for Satan to, look for ANY, little think thought, word or deed, we MAY have done, and tells God, to curse us again.
God is Righteous and Almighty, so He gave His word as Truth, therefore, it creates the First Law, God cannot break His own convenant, it is up to us to use what God created for us, (Genesis 1.1 souls, spirit), to commune with God, via Holy Spirit to find out if there is an accusation against us.
How to know, by the repeated nature of the unhappiness, “plagues,” affecting us, think of anything that is harming and no matter what we do it will no stop, this is a sure sign (remember Adonai, say, why is it you can tell the weather, but not read the sign of the times?), that, there is an accusation or the Adversary accusing us to God, but remember there is more for us than against, 24 Elders, and the 12 Council, and most importantly, our Intercessor Jesus Christ, Yeshuha the Messiah, who is waiting for us to ask for the books to be opened.
Yes bind Gods love to you and LOOSE the demons, don’t bind demons to you; bind is wrap attach, ( this is why one must read KJV), but before this can be done, a verdict has to be rendered, so evidence and witnesses have to be summoned the Plantiff is the Adversary, why, because he is short on time.
The Adversary-Satan is short on time, and he will also, mess up Gods timing for us, so expected outcomes, etc, do not come to pass. The timing in written about in the Bible, as it is written in each persons scroll. The Jewish, use the Scroll, in various ceremonies, it’s not just to hold the Holy Word, is a representation of each persons, DNA, record of accounts.
So here, Trust, Account, are all financial terms right, wrong, they are biblical instructions, so, put your Trust-wealth, hope, belief into the account of Jesus, where he will keep you safe, psalm 23, talks about, how Jesus the Shepherd, takes care of you, and restores you, so you can confidently, walk through the shadow of the valley of death, and so, on.
This psalm, is about you/us, singular, our personal Saviour, taking care of us, watching over us/you/me, what is Jesus look out at the, space atmosphere, why, because Satan in the the Air, Jesus can see him we cannot. You cannot have your soul restored if your are troubled, so firstly, Jesus the Shepherd, say, eat, rest, calm down, by the still waters, now sleep, and I will restore your soul.
He Satan is a master mind-game player, what is his, modus operandi steal, kill and destroy, why, so he does not appear; as subpoena by The Ancient One-Lord Judge, God has many titles, in the Courts of Heaven, for trial.
There are (4) four thrones to be occupied, Father, Lord, King, Creator-God, so chose wisely, as the wrong one in can cause unhappiness.
I have seen Jesus sitting on a very, very big rock, waiting, why wait if nobody is going to show up, because its’ already been done.
        But the choice is individual.
Buy an older version of the King James Bible, why inaccuracy in many now printed, example: 1 Tim 3;16 God appeared in the body, no, God was manifest in the flesh.
Only Satan appears, God is real, Jesus is in the flesh. Satan cannot make his own natural flesh-body, next best thing, is to inhabit a body.
This goes back to Genesis, Satan was a Serpent not a human, so yes the devil does many many times makes one do it, this is why Jesus Christ said, Father forgiven for they know not what they are doing.
People love to throw the book of law at each other until it come there way, then they reach for legal council to remove the accusations, They kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. We; including myself, need to stay in the Word. We need to be sure we not only read the Word but also know it. That’s how Jesus battled Satan…with the Word. It’s also about prayer and dying to ourselves.

I didn’t think the book was that well known. I only found it because I like to research bible topics and found it in an old fashioned local Christian bookstore that is jammed pack with Christian and Bible literature. There are 16 major demons and they have lesser spirits or behavioral symptoms under the major categories. When you read it it is like you are seeing a psychological chart of all the evils of the human race and what spirit is motivating it.

I think if you study the Bible regularly though you will strengthen spiritually to come to a full measure like it says in Ephesians 4. We have so few good specimens of spiritual success in today’s culture that the victorious living sermon is hardly ever given. Instead we get all these rationalizations excusing sin and spiritual failure but people learn the most from failure and if you stay in the Book then Jesus can build perseverance in you and turn you into a spiritual success.

Is anything to hard for God? No.

All things are possible with God so don’t let the weak Christians or the world fool you into being less than God intends you to be. God can build the mind of Christ into His obedient people any time He wants to.

We just need to stay in the Word to speed up our spiritual discernment and growth and ask Christ for every spiritual gift. The Bible is where you learn from God how to sort spiritual truth from worldly error. The world can’t teach it to you only God through the Spirit can and the Spirit likes to use the Bible. cf. 1 John 4.

The sixteen demons are found throughout the Bible. Quite a lot of sin is most likely to be just the flesh but there are still occasionally cases today that you read about where people claim encounters with demons. I have to admit I tried to find info on them because I was trying to prove the Bible with NDEs and other supernatural manifestations and I did find the evidence of them.

Lately I have been wondering if people in ancient Biblical times personfied types of evil or behavior as demons to be able to recognize and deal with things that happen.

We’ve had some really irrational, ruthless world leaders throughout history that committed so many atrocities that you could argue that their evil intensity bordered on the demonic and make a reasonable case for it. Some of these people even dabbled in the occult.

Divination is still around today. People still use divining sticks to find water and some claim that psychics may have familiar spirits. I have even seen cases on tv that claim a psychic helped solve cases.

But maybe we shouldn’t be overly preoccupied with death or evil manifestations because Christians are suppose to be done with all that. We’re onto better things now like love, joy and peace and the supernatural attributes of the Fruit of the Spirit. That is our new nature. Even though I did discover the work of Harvard psychiatrist M. Scott Peck who wrote a book on two exorcisms he was involved in in his book called ” Glimpse of the Devil. “. Demons could be rare though you might have to consult someone more expert than me on it for details.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

2 Timothy 1:7King James Version (KJV)

        2 Timothy 1
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

The sixteen major demons are the spirit of divination, familiar spirit, spirit of jealousy, lying spirit, perverse spirit, spirit of haughtiness (pride), spirit of heaviness, spirit of whoredoms, spirit of infirmity, dumb and deaf spirit, spirit of bondage, spirit of fear, seducing spirits, spirit of antichrists, spirit of error, spirit of death.

There are faith healers still around and people like Pastor Henry Wright who write about the spiritual causes of illness and disease as in his book “A More Excellent Way”.

I admit I was criticized in the past so heavily for advocating and defending the Gospel by people claiming to think more “critically” than me that now after reflecting on it I suspect some of those people had the critical spirit.

Sam Harris advocates “conversational intolerance”. So is Sam indulging his own critical spirit?

The demons or evil spirits, are written all throughout the bible, but remember the bible interprets bible, and the first account of a thing, is it’s meaning.
Try starting with the book of Job- the more detail account of God creating process, and have a read of psalm 104, why these first, they give the person the creation back ground to the beginning of humans before they were made; essentially, a pure life with no evil in it.
Then read say Daniel and so on.
The christian bible especially the KJV, Authorised Version, good, God tells us, to reason with him, to ask questions.
        enjoy.

Susan, why do you believe that evil is not from within man but from demons? Zechariah 13:1-2 says “The Lord declares, “On that day a fountain will be opened for David’s family and for those who live in Jerusalem to wash away their sin and stain. (This refers to the day of Christ in history not the current age. A time when the Christ would be revealed, His message preached and spread by the Apostles)

2 “On that day,” declares the Lord of Armies, “I will wipe away the names of the idols from the land. They will no longer be remembered. I will also remove the false prophets and the unclean spirit from the land. (The Christian phenomena was that the Pagan religions fell away, Christianity took over the world at the time)

We all sin, everyone since Adam and Eve sin, when we sin we do what God abhors.

    On a lighter note:
God doesn’t believe in atheist, therefore atheist do not exists!

People don’t realize. We are born into a body of death. God pronounced a death sentence on Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. So this body we inhabit …our temples….they are programmed to die before we are born. We even contain telomeres on our chromosomes that determine how long we will live. Health problems run in families like curses so you have to seek healing and wisdom from God to battle them. Look at all the zombie movies today…why so many? It’s self deceptive because we are all zombies without Jesus Christ who gives eternal life. Mortality creates weakness and sin in people. These are natural obstacles in our fallen nature that we need Jesus to teach us how to overcome. Since a spirit of death already resides in our mortal frames we definitely need something to replace and drive that spirit out. It does reside in the flesh because every person dies until that one generation that is born that lives forever. Satan is the strongman but Jesus Christ is the stronger man. That is why he must increase and we must decrease. We are accomodating our spiritual growth and improvement when we die to self daily and let the life of Jesus reign in our mortal members. People don’t like to admit they could die some day but the way they live their lives shows whether or not they over respect death and are living in fear in for their lives in quiet desperation trying to pretend they are not afraid. But the bravest and the best after Yeshua ( that is Jesus’ name in Hebrew ) were the disciples. Did you notice all the disciples fled and abandoned Jesus out of a fear of death and persecution right before the Cross but then Jesus rose from the grave in the flesh. He gave his Spirit at Pentecost and right after that His God given hand picked men stopped being afraid and stood up to persecution. So God definitely can give a person courage through His gift of the Spirit but we still have to nourish our spirits by feeding on the Word. We also have to take care of our temples because we are housing the Spirit of God.

I think apologetics is a last ditch effort to wake people up before the Second Coming.

The signs are all in the heavens right now that Jesus is coming and if you google and read an online book called “God Prophetically Named the Stars” then you will see that the Gospel message is actually told in the constellations like the Bible says it is and only God could do something so miraculous.

Here is God saying the heavens proclaim His message in Psalm 19:

    Psalm 19King James Version (KJV)

19 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

That book shows the true meaning of the names of the constellations and they constellations proclaim the Gospel but man has a spirit of error and they have been scrambling this message from God since ancient times.

So if you want to witness a miracle google that book and read it.

Is anything too hard for God? No He created the heavens but we have some really evil spirits dwelling among us here on Earth that try to scramble His messages so that we will live in error and self defeat.

I refer alot to various bible scholars who have had greater revelations than I have had to compare notes and figure out what is going on down here but sometimes they are error prone, too so we have to really know the Bible as personally and completely as possible to be able to vet our own experts for error.

The Holy Spirit is our tutor and he builds discernment in lots of God’s people through the Word but in the West too many of God’s people are not giving attention and time to the tutor given them from God. They are too busy seeking earthly pleasures and watching television. But our time is precious and finite. More precious than money. You never get time back. So be sure to stay in the Bible. You are helping God build a whole new nature and banking treasure in heaven when you do that and remember….You are God’s treasure….that is the greatest knowledge that this world like to steal. Jesus Christ died on the Cross so that you God’s child could be restored to God spiritually intact.

Yes Susan, correct. Time is coming, so Psalm 91 should be read and use as the suit of armour for all.
This psalm God so very much wants his children to put on, for he loves them so much.

That is a very great Psalm. It sustained Corrie Ten Boom through her incarceration in a WWII concentration camp. To my way of thinking the Church doesn’t stress the Armor of God enough which is in the Book of Ephesians. Paul has a very important prayer to strengthen the inner man in that book as well.
We have to take over our own spiritual feeding at some point. That is what a close relationship with the Bible does. Mere church attendance could leave you milk fed. Paganism really assailed the church early on in it’s history and what is the solutiion to deception in the church? It is a true life giving relationship with the good Lord Jesus Christ. All the warnings, tests, ways, law, nature of God, prescriptions for holiness are in the Bible.
God has His ways and they aren’t the world’s ways….it is hard in the last days to get close to walking in the Spirit because the deception has been reigning long and hard in the church with all the false prophets watering down and distorting the Gospel so stay in the Bible and ask a lot of questions and get the Biblical answer. It isn’t hard to google verses for the answers. It is just we don’t think to do it and watch the teachers. Some teachers are much better than others. I have run into a great controversy over Saturday and Sunday being the right day of worship ….great, great controversy….to such an extent you ask yourself what happened in New Testament times….but I realized God is in control and every day is the Lord’s Day….so every day is a day of worship if younare worshipping in spirit and truth 24/7….
We can get so caught up in the petty details that we miss the big picture….
So somebody is right about the correct day of worship and somebody is wrong….but I can get around that….I say in my heart every day is the Lord’s Day and the Lord who knows everything knows that I am true in my heart to him…
We have a lot of appearance vs. reality wars in this world. The main thing that assists us in dispelling deception is the Bible but don’t forget the Spirit which is higher.
How many times I have sat up on message boards watching people argue religion and people getting personal with others….I’ve seen a lot of atheists indict Christian ministers who write books for profit motives but there are a lot of reasons for writing books…Just remember only the good Lord can really read heart motives….Jesus Christ was reading all the Pharisees heart motives like a book demonstrating his divine omniscience…But you only notice things like that by reading the book.
The best thing that happened in more recent times is John Wycliffe. He got the bible out of the hands of the paganized Church into the hands of the ordinary person and now we have a better chance of seeing who is straight in the church and who isn’t. We can’t see everything because we can’t read heart motives but we can self determine to keep ourselves as holy and error free as possible even with all the false philosophy and false teachers undermining Christianity all the time to serve their private interpretations and purposes.
If you couldn’t be made holy then why be washed by the water of the Word. Strive for the personal holiness….God places each in his own order….and the first resurrection is where the most holy will be…but in all the great and personal revelations don’t allow spiritual pride to enter…that was the undoing of the Pharisees and the Pharisees are still around today….alive and well in the church….putting burdens on people that Christ never would because his burden is light. I have run into Christians that are so afraid to use their minds….but why you have a God given one…the mind of Christ….so use it and walk in the spirit every day. there is nothing to prevent you from doing that.
One of the church’s biggest mistakes is they don’t teach the Armor of God right after baptism. We’re all going to be tested by this world and go through a baptism of fire and a lot of the churches are on their own worldly schedules not getting the new believers what they absolutely need to know…
So we better get it from the Bible ourselves. The “experts” are too busy. Besides if you want to ensure something is done right then don’t you do it yourself and this isn’t just anything we are talking about….This is salvation…so we need to enter the process but don’t let fixation on the small obstacles and details that a lot of people get spiritually upset over upset you….God is in control and you are on your own personal path with him as the 23rd Psalm says which is my favorite Psalm. This world is temporary and passing away but a lot of people get caught up in the petty day to day details and forget that….but the sooner it passes the better and we will be onto a better age in a better place where there won’t be so many “tests”.

I was watching a Star Trek episode where Q (an immortal all powerful being) offers immortality and all power to one of the crew members. The crew member rejects the offer saying he likes the struggle, the ability to make his own way, to problem solve and to better oneself—that to suffer hurt, failure, pain and struggle is what makes him stronger and have a better self image of his accomplishments and to strive to be better, to learn from the mistake, etc that it is all a part of humanity. Fans who watched this episode realize a deep truth about man has been revealed and put into words…mankind embraces the struggle to better itself, to learn from mistakes, that suffering is part of the human condition and ultimately makes mankind stronger and better. YET when God allows the mistakes of humanity that cause suffering the atheists attack and call God all sorts of names, monster, unkind, unloving, etc. it. Why aren’t the atheists attacking ST for saying that mankind wants the freedom to struggle, to make mistakes, to be human and learn from it and ultimately better the whole of society despite mistakes, war, crime, death, suffering, etc.

From your description, it seems the ST character is describing how a person can live a fulfilling, purposeful and moral life without any involvment of a deity. Why would an atheist want to attack that?

“Groups holding virtually every worldview, from theists to atheists, have been mutually guilty of evil behavior.”

History sucks and people are evil but God says to keep no record of wrongs so I am apologizing to the world for every online argument I ever engaged in in which I tore down people in favor of keeping a record of wrongs.

This is one of the reasons why Jesus died on the Cross. So people could stop keeping records of wrong and be spiritually enabled.

Once one can stop holding grudges then he has a chance to be a peacemaker, doesn’t he?
